IFHE 2010: Itinerary for Academic Excursion to Donegal, Magee’s Textiles & Salthill Gardens

| 11.15pm | Magee’s of Donegal This tour shall include a visit to Magee’s of Donegal, the family company started in 1866, where John Magee and his cousin Robert Temple collected cloth from the entire SW area of Donegal. From these early beginnings Magee’s has now developed into a worldwide business. You will see a demonstration of a hand loom in action, and an explanation for the various weaves and their history. | |
| 12.15pm | A light lunch shall be served in the adjoining restaurant & you will be given some free time to have a short walk around the town of Donegal. | |
| 14.00pm | In the afternoon, you will travel west form Donegal town, and visit the Gardens of Elizabeth Temple. These gardens have been entirely developed in the last 25 years, and are now mentioned in numerous guides as a place of horticultural interest. The acre of walled garden is intensively cultivated with numerous plants from all over the world, the vegetables are grown in the age old tradition of ridges, and an explanation and talk about the garden is given in the nearby garden room with afternoon refreshments. | |
